Is your thyroid giving you a pain in the neck?

Dominick Hussey Registered Applied Kinesiologist and Osteopath talks about the link between chronic neck and shoulder problems and an underactive thyroid.

The thyroid gland is located just below your voice box. Its main function is to regulate the rate at which the body ’ cells produces energy. As you get older and during times of stress the function of the thyroid can be reduced.

In Applied Kinesiology each body organ and gland is associated with a particular muscle and spinal vertebrae. The thyroid is associated with teres minor muscle that is used to control the movement of the shoulder, and the fifth cervical vertebrae in the neck. Problems in the thyroid can therefore cause weaknesses in the teres minor muscles leading to shoulder problems and misalignment and subsequent neck problems.

Along with these symptoms because the thyroid regulates nearly all the body’s cells, other symptoms can be widespread:

Fatigue, low energy levels and sluggish, Lack ambition and motivation, Better after exercise, Frequent cods and infections, Cold hands and feet, Dry Skin and brittle soft nail, Loss of hair, Constipation, Going to pieces easily under pressure, Depression, Weight gain.

Many people with these problems go to their doctors and are sent for blood tests, which in the majority of cases are shown as normal. This is however does not help the patient who is still suffering with the same symptoms.

In my practise I see many people who present with neck and shoulder problems as well and after further questioning are also suffering from many of the other symptoms shown above. Where this is the case using AK muscle testing can be used to establish a thyroid dysfunction, identify vertebral misalignments and vitamin and mineral deficiencies. By straightening the spine and replenishing the body using dietary changes and supplements, after time many of the symptoms can be resolved.
